Runik Games Newsletter: March 2009
Upperdeck Loses Out On All Fronts!
Upperdeck Entertainment, the people who run organised play around the world for Yu-Gi-Oh! and World of Warcraft are struggling in both the U.S. and
the U.K. with two different problems!
In the U.K. local hobby game stores are up in arms after Argos received and started selling Yu-Gi-Oh! Crimson Crisis packs earlier than
any of the core game stores. Argos were selling the newest Yu-Gi-Oh! set from 17th February some 2 weeks before your local hobby stores could even
run sneak preview tournaments! This undermines any incentive for hobby stores to run sneak preview tournaments or even stock the new products
as most players will have access to the cards weeks before! Now local gaming stores are threatening a boycott of a new game released by
at the end of March.
This is the 2nd time that Upperdeck and Argos have worked together to undermine the gaming community and it looks like this time small retailers
have had enough!
On top of this a court in the U.S. has ruled in favour of Konami in the continuing battle over the organised play rights in the U.S. and it now looks
like Upperdeck will not be allowed to continue with it's program there.
Games Workshop in Runik Games
A large part of the Games Workshop range is due to arrive in Runik Games, Bury this first week of March. We already run a 40K league every
Tuesday night from 6pm to 10pm so now you'll be able to stock up as well as play! Beginnners are always welcome - so come along on a Tuesday
night or pop into the shop if you've got anymore questions.
Opening the ARC!
The ARC shopping centre is due to open on Thursday 5th March with a fanfare (plus stilt walkers, fire eaters and clowns!) and it
means you'll now have a direct route from the carpark or cinema to Runik Games! If you're in Bury on Thursday pop into the shop and help yourself to
a game of Magic/Yu-Gi-Oh/Warhammer and a doughnut! C U There!
